"I haven't seen anything like this on other ACE servers."
"I played for the first time on the Realism Server, and it was AWESOME! I went into it like in real life and I felt like I was up there, I was even scared that I would die!"
"I have been working on the Realism server with one purpose: to represent as much as possible in Arma and ACE, what things would be like if this were real life. Since 2015, the server has kept expanding to include further aspects, such as Hunter'z Economy Module which adds the logistics component to the game, giving every in-game asset a value, or my now standalone AI-mod. However, in its roots, our Realism server focuses on one thing: immersion. No annoying radio messages or magic group and task markers on your HUD, no AI units fighting with a short attention span and the reflexes of a koala, and the fact that if you have heavy support, the enemy has it too, and it's realistically effective. Basically, if you don't play the game as if it were real life, you won't survive."
Built on top of EightySix's Patrol Ops mission, and then modified substantially, our Realism server is a bit like virtual reality. The mission is persistent, which means everything done on the server gets saved. The aspect of randomness inherited from the original Patrol Ops mission framework is further enhanced to include persistent tasks and events that affect the campaign in the long run. The AI is not only extremely challenging, but also have a realistic, almost human-like fighting style, which forces you into thinking realistically in and out of combat.
Sunset at FOB Jamhoria, Fallujah. This FOB was built "by hand" using the R3F Logistics module, and is fully persistent.
Persistency also means that destroyed buildings do not get magically repaired when you join in again. Vehicles don't respawn when destroyed; instead we have implemented Hunter'z Economy Module, which means that funds are earned from succesfully completing tasks, and vehicles have to be bought. In fact, pretty much everything has to be payed for, including weapons, ammo, fortifications for building a FOB or small outposts, radio equipment and even fuel. Combined with the R3F logistics script, this adds a whole new dimension to the game and company finances must be managed properly to make sure the unit never runs out of critical resources. This helps us simulate the true value of assets, considering that we use real-world prices for everything thanks to a hard working research department, and helps us realise that nothing is "disposable" and every piece of equipment is important.
Another important aspect of logistics is the medical system that we use. Combat Medical System (CMS), the mod that later developed into the Advanced Medical System in ACE 3 in Arma 3, has been enhanced by us to make things even more challenging. It really would be in your best interest not to get shot!
The Realism Server uses a highly realistic medical system based on CMS.
The best thing about our server is that development never stops. New content gets added with every update, while existing content is modified for better realism, or more unpredictability. Currently Patrol Ops Hunter'z is being developed on the Fallujah map, but soon it will be ported to different and larger maps such as Clafghan, when the counter-insurgency components of the server are further developed.
The Realism Server is currently being ported to Arma 3, as part of our plans on carrying over our unit and its heritage into Arma 3.
Even when you do everything right, this server will find ways to punish you.
Our Realism server is a semi-private server, which means that you can only play on it if you're supervised by a trained B.A.D. PMC member and if you agree to adhere to strict rules. Operations are only available if a minimum of 4 people including 3 B.A.D. PMC operators and at least one officer are online.
New regulations also dictate that there must be at least 3 trained B.A.D. PMC operators to allow a non-unit member to join the server. This 3 to 1 ratio must be maintained for any additional non-unit members to join.
